CampNWMI Lead Teacher

NWMI is seeking a highly qualified lead teacher for our two-week summer camp for youth ages 3 to 16 years old.

Position Summary: 

The Lead Teacher will prepare detailed, age-appropriate lesson and have primary responsibility for implementing those lesson plans during each week of camp. Lesson plans should have a balance of thoughtful, focused activities and active physical play. Lesson plans should include Islamic stories whose meaning and relevance are reinforced through games, playful activities and/or crafts. The Lead Teacher must also assure that materials and equipment are available to support his/her planned activities. The lead teacher is expected to be on-site for the duration of camp, arriving one hour prior to start time to prepare, and remaining on-site at the end of the camp day as needed to ensure quality care for campers, to clean up, and to prepare for the following day. 
The ideal candidate will have a positive attitude, be self-motivated and enthusiastic about offering an extraordinary program for our Muslim youth. S/He will have excellent interpersonal skills, an approachable demeanor and enjoy having direct contact with youth and their families.  A strong relationship between the Lead Teacher, Assistant Teacher and Camp Director is vital to the success of the position. 

The Lead Teacher reports to the Camp Director. A stipend will be provided for the time on-site, however additional planning and coordinating time is expected as well. 

Qualifications:

  • At minimum, one year teaching experience
  • Experience in youth program planning

Preference is given to candidates who:

  • Have two years of college in a related field (education, child development, recreation, family social sciences)
  • Have training in pediatric first aid
  • Have previous summer camp experience
  • Are members of the NWMI community
