Join us for an evening of insight and introspection for the whole family!
Adults will enjoy a lecture by Br. Amir Muhammad, the director, co-founder, and curator of America’s Islamic Heritage Museum as well as one of the foremost historians of the Islamic experience in the United States and a leading activist in creating public awareness of America’s rich Islamic history.
NWMI youth will participate in age-specific, identity-centered workshops led by Adeeb Tutoring Center, an organization dedicated to empowering and inspiring young American Muslims through social and cultural education about their heritage, history, and present-day context:
Ages 3-7: “Art, Stories, and Song: All About Ramadan!”
Ages 8-12: “Becoming the Storyteller: Tell Your Own Ramadan Story”
Ages 13-16: “History of Muslims in America: Who Are We and Where Do We Belong?”
Prayer and iftar will follow, and we will end the event with an hour of youth team sports. We hope you will join us! Registration is required.
AMIR MUHAMMAD
Mr. Amir Muhammad is an accomplished and noted researcher, historian, author, and poet whose works have gained him international recognition. He is an author of eight books, and his work has been published in national and international magazines and newspapers. The book Muslims in America: Seven Centuries of History has sold over 40,000 copies over the past 10 years.
Mr. Muhammad has lectured and exhibited at Harvard University, Stanford University, Rutgers University, Howard University, University of Pittsburgh, University of Indiana Bloomington, University of Florida, the University of Illinois Chicago, and a host of other universities and schools across the country. Throughout his career, he held many management positions for the America’s Islamic Heritage Museum, A&H Books & Gifts, ACLU, AMC, and Masjid Muhammad.
Adeeb Tutoring Center
Adeeb Tutoring Center is an online educational platform designed for young American Muslims. It brings knowledge of our diverse community’s languages and cultural heritage into conversation with present day issues. Our goal is to assist young American Muslims to become socially aware, responsible and confident members of their society by embracing their identity and moral values.
The idea of an online educational hub such as Adeeb Tutoring Center, first took root in our own experiences as active Muslim community members. It developed further as we became researchers on and educators of Muslim cultures. It did not take long to realize the inseparable connections between language, spirituality and our cultural history. We identified the lack of quality education, and the disconnect between traditional approaches to cultural education and present day needs of young Muslims in the U.S. to be among the main educational challenges facing the community.
Our personal experiences and expertise have enabled us to fully embrace these challenges, and inspired us to come together and offer quality services and products addressing the specific needs of young Muslims.
