Mariam Mokhtarzada
Executive Director

Mariam Watson Mokhtarzada is passionate about building an organization that fosters transparency, diversity, and dynamic programming for American Muslims. One of NWMI’s co-founders, Mariam has served as the Executive Director since 2017, blending her love for the community with her experience in organization development.

Mariam has a Bachelor's degree in Nursing and a Master's Organization Development from American University. She is currently earning a Certificate in Executive Leadership and Non Profit Development from the University of Maryland. Having served as a Director of Human Resources at an internet start-up and on several non-profit boards, Mariam currently sits on the board of the Montgomery County Community Foundation. She lives in Silver Spring, Maryland with her husband and 3 children.

Mariam Alkateb


Mona Eldadah

As NWMI's Creative Director, Mona brainstorms with volunteers to design programs for NWMI based on the community’s needs and interests. She is one of NWMI’s co-founders who seeks a loving community focused on Allah (swt) to raise her four kids.

Samaa Eldadah

Samaa is inspired by the power and potential of NWMI’s youth and develops programming centered around youth connection and empowerment. She has grown up in the NWMI community and is thrilled to give back.

Sean Hopkins

Sean oversees internal and external communications strategies for NWMI, including mailing list information, social media, and program communication. Sean's background is in writing, editing, multimedia, and communication strategy.

Marie Howe

Marie created the original NWMI website and helped facilitate NWMI's Convert Connections program in Ramadan. She looks forward to working on future interfaith initiatives.

Almira Hussain

Almira is a teacher by profession who holds a Bachelors degree in Elementary and Special Education, and a Masters degree in Childhood Literacy. She has taught for the past 5 years at Al Fatih Academy and currently serves on Team NWMI as a manager of youth programs. Summer 2019 will mark Almira’s third year as a lead teacher at CampNWMI. Almira is joyful and fun loving and adores working with Muslim youth.

Ambereen Husain

Ambereen has held many positions at NWMI, including Head of Operations. You can see her signature style throughout NWMI programming. Ambereen focuses on specific program execution to ensure the success of NWMI events.

Khizer Hussain

Khizer facilitates NWMI’s Quran Circles. He believes that through community we build our strongest bonds with our Creator (swt). Khizer spends his days telling stories of fearless learning at Two Rivers Public Charter School on Capitol Hill.

Maryam Jelvani

Maryam recruits volunteers for NWMI programming and matches them to programs according to their interests and skills. Maryam joined NWMI in 2011 and has been involved in past roles such as website and social media maintenance.

Aamir Nooruddin

Aamir is married to the NWMI web form designer extraordinaire and has four kids. Aamir is involved with multiple masjids and volunteer efforts in the DMV, and currently serves as a Technical Executive in the DoD space and an adjunct faculty member in the Information Systems department at UMBC.

Maryam Paryavi

Maryam began her role as a member of the event planning team after being recruited at a NWMI volunteer meeting, and also assists with NWMI’s social media needs.

Akbar Sayed


Hayya Shah

Hayya oversees program logistics and manages several programs, assisting with internal and external operations. She studied Islamic theology in Qom, Iran (1999-2009), with a concentration in Islamic law, philosophy, mysticism, and Qur’anic recitation.

Fatima Showkatian

Fatima oversees the logistics and relationships necessary to bring successful NWMI programming to life. She is an event planner and project manager by trade with years of experience planning, driving, and executing logistics for major events of all kinds.

Kiran Siddiqi


Solat Zaidi

As a program coordinator, Solat plans and executes a broad range of activities, including the successful Welcome Ramadan Program and the 2018 Eid Festival. She has a Masters in Biotechnology from Georgetown University and a bachelor’s degree in Psychology.
