Welcoming Ramadan Festival

  • Rockville High School 2100 Baltimore Road Rockville, MD, 20851 United States (map)

Welcome the holy month with NWMI as we bring ourselves closer to the community and to Allah (swt). This dynamic program offers fun for all ages!

Ramadan in Our Hearts – bring your attention to those less fortunate at our community service stations, including donor registration with Be the Match.

Ramadan in Our Hands – make moonsighting binoculars, Ramadan banners, and other crafts (young kids), or play interactive games in the gym (older kids).

Ramadan in Our Heads – learn about moon phases, moonsighting, nutrition, and books (author Hena Khan will be signing books!).

Local vendors will be offering beautiful Ramadan and Eid items and delicious food for purchase, and pizza will be provided. Don’t miss this year’s photobooth! (See pictures from last year's amazing event here).

We look forward to celebrating Ramadan with you. Please register for a chance to win a prize!

Volunteer

Join in the festivities! We have lots of ways to volunteer at this event to get you into the Ramadan giving spirit.

Ramadan Story Competition

NWMI teens, in collaboration with Shout Mouse Press, are publishing a book on being Muslim in America! See the grand cover reveal, meet the authors, and pre-order your copy (Eid release) at the Welcoming Ramadan Festival!

Inspired by their creativity, NWMI is launching its own Ramadan Story Competition. We invite you to create a short story (less than 500 words), poem, or illustration representing how your unique American Muslim family celebrates Ramadan(e.g. favorite foods, traditions, memories, or experiences in the holy month).

Please email your story, poem, or illustration to stories@nwmi.org by Friday, May 3rd, or hand it in by 6pm on May 4 at the Welcoming Ramadan event. The top three entries will win prizes! Winners will be announced at NWMI’s Community Iftar on May 11.
