Surah Al-Mu'minun 23:12: "And indeed, We created humankind from an extract of clay"
Join us this Ramadan for a unique art event that invites you to explore the spiritual depths of creativity through clay. Spend the afternoon with one of the talented artists below, engaged in a distinct project designed to encourage contemplation on the themes of creation and transformation, mirroring one's personal spiritual journey in the holy month. Come celebrate the beauty of creation, guided by the hands of experts who infuse spirituality into their art.
**This event is for adults, teens are welcome to join.**
REGISTRATION REQUIRED.
Participants will choose from one of the following workshops:
Prayer beads with Sasa
Guided by multimedia artist Sasa Aakil, participants will embark on a creative, spiritual journey to craft their own tasbih—a set of exquisite prayer beads—molded from raw clay. Note: this handcrafted piece does not require firing and therefore will be ready to take home at the end of this workshop.
Tile with Nadia
Guided by visual artist Nadia Janjua, participants will explore the genius of Islamic geometric design by creating their own unique clay tile embellished with mosaic glass pieces. Note: the handcrafted tile will be ready to take home at the end of this workshop.
Vessels with Alison
Guided by ceramic artist Alison Kysia, participants are invited to explore a personal truth or sacred value that gives their life meaning—whether it's a meaningful relationship, a challenge you've overcome, or the person you aspire to be. Using black sticky clay, participants will create up to three small clay vessels as visual representations of these truths. Note: the vessels will need to be fired and therefore *NOT* ready to take home at the end of this workshop. Participants must be willing to pick up their finished pieces from NWMI’s Eid Celebration or from a home in Rockville, MD.
